Fall in Baltimore

A final Fall reminiscence as we welcome the winter.~ Hints Of Life

Travel to near and far places enriches one’s mind, body and soul. It is the best kind of therapy that one needs from time to time. As I write this blog post it brings me immense joy and some fond memories. In late October I took a short trip to Baltimore in the nearby state of Maryland.

It was a special trip as I was traveling with my parents visiting from India. Starting our trip early morning we took the bolt bus from Manhattan to Baltimore. The three hour bus ride was comfortable and the fall colors of blazing reds, vibrant orange and sunny yellows spectacular throughout the journey. Looking through the window I was a spectator to nature’s greatest show. As the bus moved forward the scenery appeared like fast transiting rushes from a film.

Though the North-East experienced a delayed fall foliage peak this year, a result of warm temperatures and late October rains, for nature lovers it’s never too late to enjoy the colors of fall.

Being on the road, traveling to new places, imbibing new experiences, absorbing new scenes; transports me into a calm and happy state. My mind feels free as if in a state of hypnosis and my thoughts wander to unreachable places. I like to use this quiet time to reflect, ponder, and dwell; to connect to my deepest emotions and feelings.

We were traveling to Baltimore to meet my maternal uncle and his family. A warm home welcomed us with love, delicious food, and late night chats. The suburb Stellabrooke was a quiet, beautiful neighborhood with gorgeous fall colors all around. Unable to resist my desire to explore the nature that surrounded my uncle’s house I took off in the evening with my camera into the woods. On this particular evening, the moon shone beneath the veil of clouds, bathing the fall trees in a milky glow. Walking around the yellow American Elms, bright Red Buckeyes and orange Sugar Maples my half-mile walk came to a halt at the end of the road. A tall red sign indicating ‘road end’ led to a private property whose driveway was painted in the stunning fall colors. I stood there for a few minutes romanticizing the scene and wondering about the people who live in this beautiful area.

As the thunder rumbled in the distance a harbinger for the approaching storm I made my way back to my uncle’s home. It was time to retire to the warm indoors and enjoy a delicious cup of ginger tea with some homemade snacks. The two day trip soon came to an end and it was time to travel back to the city. We said our goodbyes taking with us lovely memories to cherish until we meet again.

Happy December! 😊

Signing off with best wishes for the week!
